Scientific rationale

"Treatable traits (TTs) is a precision medicine approach that facilitates the multidimensional assessment of each patient with chronic airway disease to determine the key traits associated with disease outcomes where targeted treatments can be applied.

A personalised management approach can then be applied based on the traits identified. Among these traits, chronic bronchitis and mucus hypersecretion are associated with the development and progression of COPD. Management of chronic bronchitis is of paramount importance to reduce the frequency of exacerbations and the risk of developing COPD, as well as to improve symptoms.

PORTRAITS is an international event where leading experts will discuss the state of the art and share useful insights that can be applied in clinical practice.

The first day will introduce the treatable traits approach in the management of CRD, the role of a multidisciplinary team and the implications for GPs and patients.

Day two will focus on the management of chronic bronchitis and the role of antioxidants in reducing the frequency of exacerbations and the risk of developing COPD, as well as improving symptoms.

The meeting will conclude with the new perspective offered by the GETomics approach in the management of COPD.
Plenary lectures and question-and-answer sessions will make the meeting fruitful and very interactive with participants. Each day, a panel discussion will offer an interesting discussion on the application of the trait approach in clinical practice.
